Meet the team
We're healthcare technologists, accessibility specialists, designers, and engineers united by the belief that healthcare technology should serve everyone. This is our team of 14.
Maya Ellison
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Maya spent 12 years building health information systems at a major EHR vendor before realizing that accessibility was an afterthought everywhere. She founded VantaCare to prove that healthcare platforms could be both powerful and actually welcoming to patients and staff. She holds an MS in Biomedical Informatics from UCSF.
"Health technology should meet people where they are, not ask them to work harder."
Daniel Mercer
Chief Technology Officer
Daniel architected secure patient data systems for two health systems before joining VantaCare. He leads our technical strategy and ensures every system we build is secure, performant, and built to standards. When not coding, he's exploring open-source healthcare initiatives.
"Privacy and security should be invisible to the user—baked into the system, not bolted on."
Priya Nanduri
VP, Product Strategy
Priya spent 8 years in product roles at digital-first health companies, managing platforms used by millions of patients. She leads our product vision and helps organizations think strategically about how technology serves their mission. She's passionate about evidence-based design.
"The best product decisions come from understanding real user workflows, not assumptions."
Owen Carlisle
Director of Accessibility
Owen has spent 10 years as an accessibility consultant and is a screen-reader power user himself. He leads VantaCare's accessibility practice, advises all product teams, and tests everything with users who rely on assistive technology. He's a passionate advocate for inclusive design in healthcare.
"Accessibility isn't a checklist—it's a way of thinking about who we're designing for."
Simone Barrett
Director of Clinical Partnerships
Simone was a nurse informaticist at a major academic medical center before joining VantaCare. She brings clinical insight to every project and helps translate between care teams and technology. She's committed to building tools that clinicians and patients actually want to use.
"The best technology serves the people doing the work, not the other way around."
Marcus Lee
Principal Software Architect
Marcus has 18 years of experience architecting large-scale systems in healthcare and fintech. At VantaCare, he ensures our platforms are secure, scalable, and can integrate with complex healthcare ecosystems. He mentors junior engineers and pushes for clean, maintainable code.
"Architecture decisions made today shape what's possible for years. We think long-term."
Elena Voss
Head of Experience Design
Elena leads our design practice and has shipped products at startups and established tech companies. She's passionate about user research, clear information architecture, and designing for diverse users. Her work has been recognized for accessibility and usability excellence.
"Great design solves real problems for real people—measurably and respectfully."
Jonah Whitaker
Lead Data Engineer
Jonah spent 7 years building data pipelines and analytics systems for health organizations. He leads our data engineering practice and ensures data flows reliably and securely across systems. He's deeply invested in data quality and compliance.
"Good data engineering is invisible—until it isn't. We build reliability."
Aisha Reynolds
Senior Product Manager
Aisha managed a patient engagement platform at a health plan before joining VantaCare. She excels at understanding user needs, scoping features, and driving products to launch. She's deeply committed to building products that close health equity gaps.
"Product management is about saying no to 100 things so you can say yes to the one that matters."
Graham Sutherland
Security & Privacy Lead
Graham has 14 years of experience in security and compliance, including 5 years at a major healthcare IT firm. He leads our security practice, ensures we meet HIPAA and other regulatory requirements, and helps organizations think strategically about data protection.
"Security and privacy are business enablers, not obstacles—when done right."
Talia Brooks
Accessibility Researcher
Talia brings a background in human-computer interaction research and personal experience with disability. She leads user research at VantaCare, ensuring we test with disabled participants and build accessibility into our research practices. Her work has shaped our entire approach.
"Nothing about us without us. Users with disabilities lead our research process."
Ethan Caldwell
Client Success Director
Ethan is the voice of the customer at VantaCare. He leads implementation and support, ensuring our clients get value from every project. He loves problem-solving with clients and turning their feedback into product improvements.
"Success isn't about the software—it's about outcomes for the organizations and people using it."
Naomi Fletcher
Healthcare Content Strategist
Naomi was a health communication specialist and patient advocate before joining VantaCare. She ensures our platforms use clear, accessible language and that content is evidence-based and patient-centered. She's passionate about health literacy.
"Clear language isn't dumbed down—it's respectful. Every patient deserves to understand."
Victor Han
Platform Reliability Engineer
Victor has 12 years of experience in site reliability engineering and infrastructure at scale. He ensures our platforms are secure, performant, and available when patients and care teams need them. He's deeply invested in observability and incident response.
"Systems should be built to fail gracefully—and we should know about it before our users do."
Our mission
Healthcare technology shapes whether care is accessible or not. Too many platforms create barriers—they exclude people who are deaf, blind, have cognitive disabilities, or don't speak English. They're hard to use and hard to trust.
We believe healthcare platforms should be built with accessibility as a core feature from day one. Every person—patients, providers, coordinators, administrators—should be able to use them independently and confidently.
That's what we build. That's who we are.
Our values
Accessibility first
We don't add accessibility after. We design for keyboard, screen readers, clarity, and diverse ability from day one. That's how you build products that work for everyone.
User-centered design
We test with real users—including patients and staff from the communities we serve. Their insights shape everything we build. We listen more than we talk.
Privacy and security
Healthcare data is personal and sensitive. We design privacy-aware workflows, meet compliance standards rigorously, and treat data protection as a feature, not a checkbox.
Honesty and clarity
We don't oversell. We tell organizations what we can do, what we can't, and what timelines and effort are realistic. We show our work and explain our thinking.
Long-term partnership
We're not here for a quick handoff. We invest in long-term relationships with clients, support them through implementation, and help them improve platforms over time.
Evidence-based practice
We follow standards (WCAG, HL7, HIPAA) not because they're rules, but because they're codified evidence about what works. We measure, learn, and improve.
